Here are some images I took with the Nikon 85mm f/1.8 which is way less than half of the price of the f/1.4 (lens above).
It was a bit of a challenge to get some of these exposed correctly since the lighting in the gym was horrible.

Alright... To be fair, the dog would not sit still and since I couldn't stand against a wall or use a tripod, it contribute to the blurriness of these images. However, there were time when I push really had to keep a steady hand, and still at 100% crop, the eyes were not tack-sharp at all. Here are some of the images I took with the Nikon 85 f/1.4 ($ 1450). Some of these images could only be used as a thumbnail on a website. Some of the images were awesome but you have to be very still (and the subject cannot move).Note: All images were edited in Lightroom. Maybe the next time, I will post SOOC images.

How do you use your 85mm f/1.4 lens? How do you setup for a portrait shots on a go? Do you carry a tripod or do you use the "belly photography" technique?

I believe the camera was already set on 1/60 or 1/80. My friend had the camera in his hand and hit the switch. So I believe either 60th of a second or 1/80 of a second.
